Can I appeal if I disagree with the amount I have been charged?
If you consider that your property should be placed in a higher or lower band, you should write to the Assessors Office, Charlotte House, Commercial Road, Lerwick, making a proposal that the Valuation List should be altered.
You may also appeal if you consider that you are not liable to pay the Council Tax, for example, because you are not the resident or owner, or as your property should be exempt, or that an error has been made in calculating your bill.
If you wish to appeal on these grounds you must do so in writing to the Head of Finance, Shetland Islands Council, Office Headquarters, 8 North Ness Business Park, Lerwick, ZE1 0LZwithin four months from the date of your first bill.
