Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages
Local authorities in Scotland have a statutory duty to provide a service for the registration of births, stillbirths, deaths and marriages in each of their registration districts.
Within the Shetland Islands registration area the main office is based in Lerwick Town Hall, and is open 9 am to 1 pm and 1.30 pm to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
There are also some home based registrars who carry out manual registrations in their own homes on a "by appointment" basis.
Any birth or death that occurs anywhere in Scotland can be registered in any registration district in Scotland.
All information regarding the registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages as well as the forms required for getting married in Scotland can be found on the National Records of Scotland website, or contact the Chief Registrar in Lerwick. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
