CHILDREN's residential Services
Children’s Residential Services (CRS) provides a vital resource for children and young people who are unable to live at home. The children and young people who access the service will have varying degrees of social, emotional or behavioural needs and who will require, at times intensive support packages to be in place. The aim of CRS is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for this vulnerable group by valuing the individuality of children and young people and supporting them in reaching their potential.
CRS currently have two properties. The main residential house is situated in Lerwick. This five bedroom property is a residential care home providing long term care for up to three young people. The second property is situated in the south mainland and provides care for up to three children and young people on a short term basis. The service responds to assessed needs for either short term task focused work or for longer term residential care. Residential staff seek to maintain a happy and homely ethos in both properties.
The educational and health needs of young people are given high priority whilst in residential care. The CRS team work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to secure the best outcomes for children and young people in their care.
A developing participation agenda ensures young people’s voices are heard and enables them to maintain control over their lives.
CRS is guided by the Children (Scotland) Act 1995 and is regulated and inspected by the Care Inspectorate under the Public Services Reform (Scotland) Act 2010.
