EMFF Community-led local development 2014-2020
The European Maritime & Fisheries Fund (EMFF) is the fund for the EU’s maritime and fisheries policies. It has been created to support the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy and to encourage the development of the EU Integrated Maritime Policy. The fund:
· helps fishermen in the transition to a sustainable future
· supports sustainable aquaculture
· supports coastal communities
· finances projects that create new jobs and improve quality of life along European coasts
The EMFF programme supports the sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture areas through a community-led local development approach. A Local Development Strategy for Shetland was developed following extensive community consultation. Shetland has a combined allocation of £485,000 of EMFF and Scottish Government funding to support projects which can meet the objectives of the local strategy.
Round 1 for project expressions of Interest has now closed. A second call for projects is likely to be announced in the first quarter of 2017.
