GET YOUR APPLICATION RIGHT FIRST TIME
We recommend that you read through this information to ensure you get your application right first time.
HOW TO APPLY
Whatever type of development you are considering there are two ways of submitting your application:
- Electronic: quicker, cheaper and greener – fill in on your computer and email back.
- Paper: slower and more expensive - you will have to print and complete two copies by hand before posting or handing in.
Use the correct ‘button’ at the bottom of the page to take you to the correct form(s).
If you are unsure how to proceed help is available either by reading the guidance notes below (please click on headings), visiting the planning process page or contact the Coastal Zone Manager Service direct - see contact details at the bottom of the page.
PLANS, DOCUMENTS AND FEES
All applications need to be accompanied by the correct plans and documents for them to be valid so that the planning process can begin. The correct fee requires to be submitted at the same time as the application form and plans. Payment is by cheque only made payable to Shetland Islands Council.
Aquaculture developers can make small scale modifications at sites through permitted development rights. However there is a requirement to submit a prior notification application to the Council to determine whether this is possible. There is a fee for this process.
All marine developments require to be advertised in the Shetland Times. Depending on the proposal this is either placed by the Council (aquaculture development) or by the applicant (other marine developments).
