Community Led Support in Shetland

The Living Well Hubs in Brae, Scalloway and Bressay offer a drop-in service for anyone who needs to find out more about local support options

There are three Living Well Hubs in Shetland, all open to the public to drop in:

  • At Brae Youth Centre, between 10am and 2pm on Mondays, and 10am - 4pm on Fridays.
  • At Scalloway Youth and Community Centre, Main Street, Scalloway, between 9am and 2pm, on Wednesdays
  • At the old Bressay School, between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesdays (from Wed 28th June 2023)

The Hubs can also be contacted by telephone on 01595 74 Community Led Support4120 or by email - livingwellhub@shetland.gov.uk

Staff are available in the Hub to speak to anyone who might feel that they need any help in their lives, but who may be unable to contact services themselves.  Options include linking individuals with local community organisations or voluntary groups, as well as referral to other support services including Shetland Islands Council and NHS Shetland.

The opening of the first Hub in Shetland is part of the roll-out of the Community Led Support (CLS) programme in Scotland, which aims to link communities with health and social care services. The Hub is funded via CLS funding provided by the Shetland Integration Joint Board and the Scottish Government, through an agreement with NDTi, the National Development Team for inclusion, who support CLS throughout the UK.  Other Hubs may open in other parts of Shetland in future.

Ruth MacMillan, Executive Manager – Adult Social Work, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to open the first Living Well Hub in Shetland (in Nov 2021), which offers a point of contact for health and social care services in the community, for anyone who might need help.  We hope that this informal setting will be something that people find easier to access, and staff will be able to suggest support options and signpost anyone to other groups and services where necessary.”
