The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 is a wide-ranging piece of Scottish Government legislation that aims to help to empower community bodies through the ownership or control of land and buildings, and by strengthening their voices in decisions about public services.
There are 11 topics covered by the Act. A summary about these can be accessed at the Scottish Government’s Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act: summary webpage.
The Act received Royal Assent on 24 July 2015; however, the different parts of the Act are coming into force at different times. In most cases secondary legislation (orders and regulations) and guidance need to be developed before the legislation can come into effect.
