Survey asks for feedback on period product provision

Free Period Products - take what youneed, when you need it.

Shetland Islands Council has launched a public consultation on the current provision of free period products in the community.

A survey has been launched to hear from anyone who uses sanitary products, may use them in the future and those who collect them on behalf of others.

Shetland Islands Council has supported the Scottish Government initiative to make period products freely available to anyone who needs them.  Free period products are available both online and at local pick-up points.

Approaches have been tested over the last couple of years, and the Council is keen to hear views on what has been tested to inform future service provision.

Emma Macdonald, Leader of the Council: “I’m proud that the Council has been able to positively support the Scottish Government’s policy.  Not only has this policy led to enabling free access to period products for people across Shetland, it has also led to more discussion about periods, helping to normalise that.  I encourage people to complete the survey, to help us decide on future long-term provision – it should just take a few minutes.”

The consultation asks whether people have accessed products, where they have accessed them and any reasons why, or why not.

You can access the consultation here https://tinyurl.com/ShetlandPeriodProductSurvey.  If you would prefer a paper copy, please contact Solarhus Reception on 01595 743888.   The survey will close at 5pm on Friday 14th February.
