Education Outreach Workers Service

The Education Outreach Workers Service is part of the Education Outreach Service and we work to promote inclusion and improve outcomes for children and young people across Shetland.

We aim to support and develop the wellbeing, in line with Curriculum for Excellence Health and Wellbeing Curriculum, of children and young people thereby assisting them to fulfil their potential as individuals.

We operate a Shetland-wide service and can work directly or indirectly with children, young people and the adults already working to support them.  We can work with small groups, whole classes and staff teams as deemed most appropriate following assessment.

Our main, but not exclusive, areas of work are:

  • support around Bereavement, Loss and Change, including advice on resources, facilitating small group programmes for children and young people, staff training and signposting to other services where appropriate
  • support around transitions, large or small, including programmes for P7 to S1 for example
  • support around the development of Nurture in schools and the wider comminity, including staff training, advice on resources, ongoing support with assessment and national policy
  • support to schools and partner agencies through advice, information and a lending system for our extensive Resource Library focused on health and wellbeing.

Our Service is based on the Brae High School campus.
