The Pre-school Home Visiting Service (PSHVS), is part of the Education Outreach Services and aims to provide support and advice to parents and early years settings to enable all pre-school children to reach their potential. We aim to promote independence, equality, respect and inclusion to ensure that children are confident and actively engaged in their relationships, play and learning.
We work with pre-school children and their families. The service may be accessed by any child with needs which affect their educational development.
The service currently comprises two part-time Pre-school Home Visiting Teachers and two Early Years Workers, based in Lerwick but working in Early Years settings and homes all over Shetland.
The role of the PSHVS is varied but will include working in close partnership with parents, early years staff and other agencies such as Health Visiting, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
Requests for involvement can be made by any of these agencies, always after discussion with and agreement from parents.
After a request for involvement is agreed, the needs of the child will be discussed and next steps agreed.
This may involve:
- Consultation and advice
- Assessment
- Liaison with other agencies
- Direct intervention
