What are we doing?

Key projects

Car Club – This trial, a partnership between the SIC and Enterprise Car Club, began in April 2024 and sees eight shared vehicles being made available to Council and NHS teams, as well as being open for local businesses, organisations and members of the public to sign up to.  The aim is provide more flexibility and efficiency for the Council, as well as supporting individuals and groups who do not own a vehicle to access one when they need it in an easy and affordable way, whilst the experience and information gathered will help us understand how the car club model could operate in Shetland and adopted further.  You will be able to hire by the hour or day, 24/7, on a first come first served basis using the Enterprise Car Club app and will also be able to use vehicles across the country.  It is open to people aged 19 or over who have valid driving licence and a valid major credit or debit card in their name, the scheme also offers a surrogate driver programme which allows a person with disabilities to join and add three additional surrogate drivers to their account at no additional cost.

There is an annual membership fee of just £10 for Shetland residents for the first year (after which membership is £20 per year), as well as an hourly or day rate and mileage charge based on how far the vehicle is driven.
