Internal Transport Services
In 2022 there were:
- 9 inhabited islands with inter-island ferry services which carried 706,763 passengers and 358,510 vehicles
- 2 inhabited islands with scheduled air services from Tingwall Airport, carrying 2,886 passengers
- 12 public bus routes throughout the islands, which carried 409,100 passengers
- 17,300 licensed vehicles and 653.7 miles of roads
External Transport Services
In 2022 there was:
- 1 external ferry service, connecting Shetland with Orkney and Aberdeen, which carried 339,299 passengers, 81,941 cars and coaches, and 593,244 meterage of commercial vehicles
- 1 airport accommodating flights in and out of Shetland, which handled 247,538 terminal and transit passengers, 17,715 aircraft movements and 199 tonnes of freight
Lerwick and Scalloway Harbours
During 2022:
- Lerwick Harbour welcomed 4,786 vessels and handled 887,631 tonnes of goods. Lerwick Port Authority revenue for the year was £12,016,000
- Scalloway Harbour welcomed 284 vessels and handled 20,100 tonnes of cargo. Scalloway Harbour revenue for the year was £1,280,813
