Assertive Community Transition (ACT)

The Assertive Community Transition (ACT) team helps people in Shetland who have learning disabilities or other complex needs to live as independently as possible. The team provide intensive, flexible support for people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.

The main goal is for individuals with learning disability and/or complex need who require care, support or protection from the statutory services, can access this support in Shetland.

The ACT team

  • Give people support tailored to their individual needs.
  • Provide transition support and skills building.
  • Teach people new skills to help them live more independently.
  • Work with people to create plans for their future.

The ACT service work with

  • Young people, including those with additional needs.
  • Adults with learning disability and/or complex needs.
  • People requiring repatriation from placements outwith Shetland.
