We will continue to invest in emotional wellbeing and resilience to help reduce poor outcomes for children and young people and families in Shetland
The Council sought the views of secondary pupils on mental wellbeing and school leaver satisfaction in July 2023. The survey explored wellbeing through the Warwickshire-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale which is a 14-item scale of positively worded statements covering feeling and functioning aspects of mental wellbeing. It also included sections with wellbeing questions, first asked as part of the Lockdown Lowdown surveys, and for pupils who had left school in an effort to gather levels of school leaver satisfaction. The questions were included in the Health and Wellbeing Census undertaken across a number of local authorities in Scotland in 2022. The results of that census, published in May 2023, highlighted higher levels of mental wellbeing in Shetland than anywhere
