Activities
Staff at Fernlea try to tailor the activities on offer to the residents who are there so this can vary depending on interests and abilities.
There is a smart TV in the living room and electronic activity board which can be moved between rooms. Staff put music on, play board games, facilitate games such as Bingo and word games, assist with reading local newspapers, etc.
Community and school groups are also encouraged to come in and visit and to engage with the service users. For example, we have had visiting musicians, talks from local historians, workshops with local craftspeople, slideshows, in the past.
Fernlea periodically hosts events such as Sunday Teas or Family events, whereby family or friends of the service users are invited in to enjoy a cuppa and a fancy with staff and residents.
Day Support at Fernlea
There is a Day Support Service on a Tuesday and Thursday which offers a variety of support and activities to service users in the wider community. The Day Support staff tailor the activities and support to the needs of the Day Support attendees. This service can enable service users to develop or regain independence skills as well as providing carers with respite from their caring role.
Meals on Wheels
Fernlea offers a Meals on Wheels to support service users in the community on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Support at Home
Fernlea offers a Support at Home service which involves staff going out into people’s homes to provide personal and domestic care to service users.
